Watch 'Darkplace' and then watch City of the Living Dead...

Seriously, City of the Living Dead is exactly like a Garth Marenghi production!

Not really, although David Warbeck reminds me of Todd Rivers towards the end of The Beyond.

Yippee-ki-yay - *sound of lift beeping*

Seriously? I've seen each episode of Darkplace a few times, and have been a fan of Italian horror cinema (particularly Fulci) for quite a while, but I can't say I noticed anything particularly Fulci-esque about Darkplace. While there are jokes, for example, Matt Berry's bad dub, or the somewhat illogical plotlines, that could be compared to this movie, I don't think that City is exactly the sort of thing that Holness and Ayoade were going for with Darkplace. To me, Darkplace was making fun of over-the-top British and American horror writers (e.g. James Herbert, who actually had a book called "Dark Places"), and 70s-80s low budget British and American horror films and TV shows. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on those topics, but I think the similarities between Darkplace and Fulci's work are more due to the actualities of creating a horror film on a low budget than intentional parody.
