Just a thought
I am not a big fan of horror remakes but this movie seems like it could use a remake. The movie is a little dated but some of the scenes were quite good and scary. For example the scene where the couple was making out in the car and they see the hanging priest was crazy. Use some of the same elements but maybe in a more Grudge or The Ring style, with a little more gore. Just sayin'.
