What's the story?
Yes... I read about it elsewhere (no real details) and that's why I happened across your post.
And my wife (a big Adam Baldwin fan - I've got pictures) asked Why?
Since there are no real writers in Hollyweird anymore with good, new ideas, anything becomes ripe for a remake at 25 years. This is a good flick, not dated at all, so I'm not sure why anyone thinks it needs remaking, updating, "re-imagining" or re-anything else. Of the 80s teen angst flicks, this is one of the best.
Yes, I agree completely. It's ridiculous. This is a great movie, I haven't gotten tired of it in 25 years. In fact, I just saw it again tonight on tv and I wonder why we don't see much of Adam Baldwin outside of sci fi. At age 17 (?) he already displayed great dramatic talent. Not that sci fi isn't cool too, but sometimes the subtleties of range get buried in the action, flash and other-worldliness of it all.
This is an awful thing to say, but I hope the remake doesn't get off the ground. I won't see it, for the same reason that I won't see the Guy Richie/Madonna remake of Swept Away... (another unsurpassable film).
What egos some of these people have.
I also hope this is one movie not to be remade. I like how they use classical musical instruments throughout the movie. Music sometimes traps a movie into a certain time period, and this movie is pretty much timeless, even the cloths and hairstlyes are subdued for the late 70's, early 80's. I am often surprised, though, how overlooked this movie is. This movie firmly argues that not everything should be remade.
sharennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooo
ba dum bum ching!
VH1's I love the eighties talked about MY BODYGUARD, and I was cracking up when one of the hosts said that this movie couldn't really be made today, then he preceded to point his finger like a gun, 'I want you to meet my bodyguard'
He was right! I haven't heard anything about this remake since 2005, when this last post was made.
I hope they don't remake it either, and if they do, I want cameos for ADAM BALDWIN and Maybe Matt Dillon. Adam could play the tough school principal or maybe we can get a glimpse into Ricky Linderman's home life and he could be his father? And Chris Makepeace could be in it as Peache's father, if he's still acting. Or Matt Dillon could be the father of Moody. There are so many ideas.
Absolutely no need for a remake. I'm a HS English teacher and I just showed it to two classes of sophomores (rowdy groups too!) and they were completely into it. No complaints, and they didn't mock it, which is a sign it is still relevant. I love this movie. I actually remember reading the book as a kid...may have been a novelization or something, but I read it over and over.
