Why can't Matt Dillon do more of this? Where is Chris Makepeace? I remember him from Meatballs...

shareMatt Dillon actually does play a few other 'bad boy' characters: RUSTY in "Rumble Fish" (1983). And his ever-classic DALLAS WINSTON "The Outsiders" (1983), and REBEL in "Rebel" (1985). Dillon rose to fame playing pretty-boy, bad-ass roles during the infamous 80's. He continued on into the 90's in some other, non bad-ass notable roles: "A kiss before dying", "Frankie Starlight", and "There's something about Mary", amongst many others.
Dillon enjoyed a pretty lucrative pretty-boy acting career in his younger hey day. I specify 'pretty boy' because unlike some actors who were naturals at the classic "Bad Boy" roles (Sean Penn for one- who also dead-on looked the part anyway), Dillon was a teen heartthrob hunk, during the 80's. Due his bad-ass demeanor, he was a naturale with bad-boy roles, and his obvious, drop-dead good looks garnered him many a great film role. He also made the cover of almost every Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, etc. magazine between 1982 and 1988.
Canadian-born native Chris Makepeace held a unique acting career in his youth. Overnight success as "Rudy da rabbit" in "Meatballs", he made his big debut in Hallmark's (Mark Twain classic) "The mysterious stranger" aired on HBO (though credited as a TV movie release). He went on in his twenties to more family-style films and appearances. He did mysteriously disappear sometime after 2001.
Good reply Prfrmr. Dillon was a great rebel/delinquent when he could play kids that age. He was great in his debut (Over the Edge - 1979). He would've been perfect as Bender (Judd Nelson's character in Breakfast Club). But how does he play that now, as a 40-something?
I thought he was great in Drugstore Cowboy and as the cop in Crash.
Although never an Oscar-winning actor, I think he's done very well for himself, and by movie fans.
Interesting you mention about the role of (John) Bender (BREAKFAST CLUB) because I don't actually recall, from a few classic (BREAKFAST CLUB) interviews, that Dillon was ever mentioned (as a possibility), nor even actually auditioned for the part. Though it would have been very interesting.
Nelson was born to portray Bender. That settles it!
