Humgoo Story

*** SPOILER ***
One of the episodes in this Amicus portmantis called Humgoo Story is based on an EC Comic's Tales from the Crypt story. It's the one where the film director is lured into the pub and becomes the main course. In the comic book it is more gory , they attach a beer tap into his Jugular and pour drinks.Coincidentaly around the same time Amicus studio's actually made Tales from the Crypt into a movie along with The Vault of Horror also.

Actually, to be pedantic, this film is not actually an Amicus production, though the company that made it had it's roots in the then-defunct Amicus. Also, the Humgoo story in the film was actually the most directly translated story from the original in the Chetwynd-Hayes novel, rather than being based on the EC story. Whether Chetwynd-Hayes himself was inspired by the EC story is another matter, but the two are only very superficially similar.

Regardless of what it was or wasn't based on, I'd just like to add that as a child the ending of the Humgoo segment scared the cr*p out of me for years... having said that thinking about it now I'm getting shivers and I'm 33!!!

Meristar, I'm your cohort (well 31), and the first time I saw Monster Club was about a month ago. As a thirty-something I wasn't that frightened by Humgoo Story, but I recognized that it was pretty chilling and if I had seen it as a kid i would probably have been just as freaked out as you were. Humgoo Story also reminded me of the last story (with John Lithgow) in Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983); at least the ending.

Oddly enough the John Lithgow story in the T-Zone movie (as well as the bit with Albert Brookes at the beginning) also frightened me silly as a youngster... What were my parents thinking letting me watch such things? :o)
These days I've graduated to "Saw" and "Hostel" etc, but yes "Humgoo" still gets me!
