Possible goof: plastic poker chips???

During the bar scene early in the movie when Cole, Bob and Clell are playing poker, do the chips look plastic or is it just me? What would chips have been made out of during that time? Clay, I assume?

reply

Actually, in the day, they were made out of wood.

I watched the scene twice, but it was a download on my computer via NetFlix and the resolution wasn't exactly great. The bright red/blue/white colors and sound of the chips hitting the table sure did make them seem exactly like those cheap plastic chips, but I'll accept that they were wooden. Either way, dang fine movie.

reply

Are they called chips because they were made of chips of wood?

reply

Clay chips were also used by the 1860's/70's- the time frame of this film's beginning. Coins and bills were perfectly acceptable as well, in most games.

reply

They sounded plastic to me. I had to laugh.

reply

I thought the same thing when I first saw this film, that the chips seemed like plastic ones.

the plastic chips were worth 1000s of dollars back then, being that the chemistry of polymers hadn't been patented yet. they must have stole them from the kmart on the corner
