Before I go buy this........

Maybe I should ask if it's any good!

I am a massive fan of zombie movies, but to date have only found the original Romero trilogy any good. Plus some zombie-esque movies such as Shivers, Evil Dead 2, The Crazies, Carnival of Souls.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things & Deathdream have their moments but aren't great overall.

Zombie Flesh Eaters & The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue were in my humble opinion truly awful. As was Land of the Dead.

This has some very good reviews but I don't always trust reviews as I've often been duped into buying a really awful film. AND, much more importantly, the same director did 'Ghosthouse', a shockingly bad film, with it's only redeeming quality being the spooky music.

So, honestly, will I like this?!!!!???

I would say without a doubt you would dislike it. It mines similar territory to Zombi but is even more outlandish overall. I personally think it's one of the best movies of all time. However, I don't watch horror movies to get scared in general, sometimes I do, then I'd reach for Romero-school stuff, but for brain dead fun, I think Nightmare City is hard to match.

So yeah, don't buy this one if you really hated Let Sleeping Corpses Lie and Zombi, since this is further down the scale yet. But since I LOVED those two movies, it was a perfect fit.

You might actually rather want to try finding The Grapes of Death (1978), a French zombie-esque movie. It has no cheez factor, is brilliantly shot and paced and takes most of its horror directly from Night of the Living Dead.

Hope that helps!

Man, first person I've heard to say that Manchester Morgue was bad. I thought it was incredibly well-done.

If you can't deal with camp, you'll hate this movie.

*SPOILERS*

Well, I bought it on a whim on VHS a while ago (As 'City of the Walking Dead', which I later upgraded to Anchor Bay's DVD), with no info about it, and on first viewing I thought it was awful, but if you watch it more than once, I gaurantee you'll find the humor in it. It's probably the most entertaining Itallian zombie flick I've had the pleasure of seeing, but it is incredibly stupid. However, the initial outbreak sequence, with the infected zombies tumbling out of the Hercules military transport and slaughtering everybody, is kind of chilling (only the zombie's make-up appears to consist of hamburger meat, which had me cracking up). There are other moments like that scattered throughout the film, but for the most part it's a riot. Watch it MST3K style and you should enjoy it.

P.S. Also has beautiful cinematography. Some of the more rustic, scenic locations not only provide for an isolated atmosphere, but are actually quite lovely.

It's not the best Italian zombie flick but it's definitely one of the easiest to watch? Speaking of which, I must watch it again!

P.S. no doubt the original poster won't like it

Well, I just found the movie on a dollar DVD double feature at Save-A-Lot, and the 2nd feature is called "Creepers" directed by Dario Argento and it stars Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasance...if you came across that, for $1, it should be a worthwhile buy.

"Land Of The Dead" awful? I actually liked it a better than the original "Dawn" & "Day".

If you are interested in Italian zombie films I'd suggest "Zombi" directed by Fulcci I believe, it was made after the original "Dawn Of The Dead".

If you prefer high quality zombie-fare I'd suggest films like "Fido", "Shaun Of The Dead", "Flight Of The Undead" (it came out after "Snakes On A Plane", and "Zombies On A Plane" seems like a ripoff, but surprisingly it delivers some great scares, good effects, and it actually works!), and if you like the absurd then watch "Hard Rock Zombies" about a 1980s hard rock band who gets killed by a still alive Hitler with a family of freaks including a werewolf granny, and the band must come back as zombies to "Rock hard to stop Hitler"! When I read that synopsis I had to buy that DVD just for that movie, despite already having about ten copies each of the two other zombie films in the collection ("Revolt Of The Zombies" and the original "Night Of The Living Dead").

Sincerely,
Exchronos
