Made Entirely In Eugene

I remember when they were filming this in my hometown Eugene, Oregon. I was only 7 years old but I still remember seeing the glass money ball in the middle of Valley River Center mall. It's fun to watch this now and see the mall the way it was in the early 80's. It takes me back. When the movie came out my family and I went to see it at the movie theater that was located right across the street from the mall. My Aunt attempted to cover my eyes during the topless scene but she wasn't fast enough. LOL

This is one of my favorite movies to watch when I want to escape to a simpler time and place. I had not seen this movie since the 90's and then two or three years ago I found the VHS tape that I had taped it on off of TBS. I watched my VHS copy of the movie a few times until I was able to order the DVD from Best Buy a couple of years ago. This is one of my favorite movies to watch when I want to relax after a long, hard day.

I love the scenery in this movie. Eugene looks like a really beautiful place. The Valley River Center mall looks really pretty also; I really like all of the big windows in the mall and its close proximity to the river. I also really love Elaine's house in the movie.

Finally, my favorite parts of the movie are the scenes which feature Elaine. Jane Curtin was so funny in this and did an excellent job portraying the recently-dumped, desperate Elaine.

I've enjoyed tracking down most of the filming locations but I'm having trouble finding Jane Curtins house.. from the great view it looks like it's up City View.. maybe McClean.. somewhere up in the South Hills. Any ideas? I used to go to VRC lots with my parents in those days.. my brain may be playing tricks on me but I have a vague memory of the money ball, I think. I was only 5-6 though.. born in 74. Still so cool to see the mall the way it was originally, especially now that it's on Bluray widescreen.

EnvisionDentalLab,

How are you? I hope you're well.

Would you mind sharing any filming location information, for How to Beat The High Cost of Living, such as names of places, addresses, etc.? I have a friend who recently moved to Eugene, Oregon, and I'm planning to visit there, so we can visit the filming locations, together. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Do you have then and now photos, and/or videos? I'd love to see, if you do. My E-mail address is [email protected], and the link to my Facebook is, https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.yuhas. Please feel free to send me a friend request, and I'll confirm you. I also have a How to Beat the High Cost of Living photo album.

Thanking you in advance, for your time.
