When you are a young actor you can't exactly be choosy about your roles. You take whatever you can get.

His role wasn't that big in Animal House. He had a few lines, so it was better than being an extra.

I saw an interview with him in which he talks about how after Animal House became such a huge hit, he thought he was on his way, but he ended up having to go back to living how he did before doing the movie.
