Jay (Randy Quaid)?????????

I was curious if it was ever mentioned at any time what Jay (Randy Quaid) did for a living? From the looks of his pad he seemed to have a well-paying job. I think I may have noticed a couple of light tables in one of the rooms, which to me suggests that he was in some sort of design occupation - maybe an album cover designer (judging from all of the album cover posters throughout the house)? Also, in the movie he was flying to New York which is the design capital of the USA.

Just curious if anyone knows for certain?

It's never mentioned what he does for a living unless I missed something. I remebered this post then watched the movie but no.

that marriage to the young girl was no way ever gonna last past a few years..And didnt he get on her *beep* for still living at home with her parents. christ shakes shes still a teenager.. what did he expect. hes robbing the cradle..

I didn't get that relationship at all. In real life, he'd be one of those creepy guys that are into underage girls and kiddy porn.

Yeah, I remember when I first watched this film how creepy I thought the whole relationship was.

In the book, they don't quite say what he did, but he had an office. He hired Madge for the summer, and fell in love with her.
