Almost double the budget of Star Wars, 3 years later...

... and this was the best they could do? This looks like a college student's film. This may be one of the cheesiest movies of all time. Yet, for some reason I still feel compelled to watch it when it comes on TV. LOL!

It's purposefully campy. Don't you realize that?

"This may be one of the cheesiest movies of all time."

And that's why it's so beloved!

Amen!

Yes, but was that the intent or is that just how it turned out?

If it were the intent, why have a budget double of Star Wars? The expenditure did not match the production value at all.

They screwed up and tried to make it a funny movie. One writer said he noticed how big of a mistake they were making and it soon got worse and worse. I saw it at the theater and I thought it was a dud but a year and a half later they kept on showing over and over again on either Cinemax or HBO and so many scenes are so bad they're awesome in their own way. It didn't hurt that it had bad acting at the same time everybody looked fantastic..add the energetic music by Queen and you have a cult following. Too bad it DESTROYED Sam Jones's career but he really was a bad actor.

The original star wars, before Lucas put his updates on it and is almost impossible to find to watch, looked pretty B movie in a lot of parts.
