Such a timeless look

Amazing how this 36 year-old sci-fi movie looks like it could have been made yesterday. Virtually anything else from back then is dated beyond belief.

I guess a huge budget, live action shots and no CGI, and brilliant filmmakers helps.

Great actors really help in the quality too... You almost feel like you are there living through it.

It's one reason (of many) why the special edition changes are so annoying. He's messing with perfection and ruining it.

I agree guys, I never EVER get tired of watching this film.

I hope Ep8 has all the great things that Empire had, but with a different story and it's own spin on how the galaxy is different than it used to be....

reply

Probably the most rewatchable film out there. Simply a masterpiece.

Just wish they had left Jeremy Bulloch's voice intact rather than Tamuera Robinson

Well all due respect, Mr. Jones, but they had to after the prequel trilogy came out.

For the same reason, they had to insert Ian as the Emperor, they had to bridge both trilogies together. Since Boba Fett was a clone of Jango Fett, it made sense for him to sound like the O.G. bounty hunter.

George made it up to Jeremy by giving him a cameo as Bail Organa's pilot in EpIII though ;)

reply

Then maybe Boba Fett shouldn't have been a clone of Jango Fett.

Besides, assuming the audience needed an explanation for why Boba and Jango sounded different, Lucas could have come up with any number of explanations.

With all due respect, Mr. Z, no they don't.

Lucas didn't need to make any changes to the Theatrical Editions of the Original Trilogy. Just leave them the way they are, the Prequels were completely uneccessary and if Lucas was so hell-bent on making them he should've crafted them better to fit what was already established.

BTW, Ian was the Emperor in Return of the Jedi and NOT Empire Strikes Back long BEFORE the Prequels came out.

I see your point, and personally I would've loved to have seen Episodes VII VIII, and XI instead of the prequels. Continuation of the saga if you will....

Still, having said that, it was his franchise back then and he could do whatever he wanted.

You're right about Ian, but the guy did such a great job that George had to bring him back altogether.

McDiarmid played the Emperor first in 1983. Lucas didn't graft McDiarmid's image over Elaine Baker's till 2004. Clearly Lucas didn't have to change the image but only chose to do it.

So would I, in fact when Lucasfilm started working on pre-production of The Empire Strikes Back, they referred to it as "Star Wars - Episode II." You can see the title on the storyboards they created for the film in 1978 in the book, "The Art of the Empire Strikes Back."

I would've much rather seen Lucas rename the Star Wars Trilogy Episodes I, II and III back in the 90's and made true sequels with the original cast while they were still in their prime. Instead we got useless Prequels and now a Sequel remaking A New Hope.
