His Reputation

As we're all aware his reputation isn't the finest but he seems to be a generous person. When he borrowed money for Episode V and made his returns he payed up to 5 million in bonuses to the crew and he payed Irvin Kershner's fines as well.

I don't like Lucas. He is a poor director and can't tell a story. And the changes he makes to his movies, don't get me started on that.

But even I was defending him, just yesterday on the Ghostbusters board.

Feig, the director of that horrible Ghostbusters reboot, calls people women haters if they don't like his movie, he insults the fans on Twitter, ...

Well, George Lucas has never ever done that. Even though it's clearly he hates being hated, he never said anything bad about his fans.

And indeed, funding the movie with his own money, and paying the fine to the DGA and leaving the Guild altogether.

George Lucas, you are a wonderful human being, compared to Paul Feig.

Paul Feig is a very, very low bar , but re: Lucas, he's demonstrated an admirable integrity on many occasions in his career, and I give him his props for that. None of us is perfect.

To be honest, I'm surprised he never took serious shots at some of his critics... some of the fans could get REALLY nasty at times.
Can't hate the guy when compared to Paul Feig.
I also, for whatever reason, keep thinking of an interview I saw with M. Knight Shyamalan where he said something about people just not getting his movies because "the pacing was European, and audiences in the US just can't appreciate it". Shifting blame for his sub part films to us...
Yeah, George is practically a saint compared to many other directors (I did hear he has a lot of fun trolling people on sets for the new Star Wars films- I don't usually condone trolling).
Sorry for the catharsis, I just spent the entire night waging a war on a mosquito (phyrric victory) and I gotta do something...

About his trolling:

The time he was wearing his 'han shot first' T-shirt. That's a big F.U. to the fans. But when you think about it, it actually is very funny.

Just a lot of people's reactions were priceless- gonna guess that was his aim.
I heard he had quite a bit of fun on the Rogue One set...

Lucas donated to charity 2 billion of his 4 billion dollar sale to Disney. If that doesn't buy the man some props, i don't know what would.
