Found out why the Night Porter got away with it.

In another thread, people were wondering why the Night Porter was allowed in to Merrick's room or more specifically, why Merrick didn't say anything to the hospital staff about the abuse.

I found a version of the original screen play and there is a scene in the screen play which was left out of the movie. In it, the Night Porter goes into John's room and tells him he has heard around the hospital that he can speak. This is right after the Carr Gomm interview. He grabs his hair and threatens him to "keep his cake hole shut about me" and John in fear agreed.

There were a lot of other things left out of the movie which were in the original script. Merrick actually communicated with Bytes but they cut that out as well. The "I am not an animal" scene was also suppose to happen in the cage with the monkeys instead of the train station.
