Saw this movie as a young kid, words come back to me as a forty year old

Some of the things that the man said to Ricky, come back to me today.

Things like "I thought I had to rule the big world before I could come back to this one".

When the old guy talks about smoking cigarets when he was young damaged his health.

When they boy is hugging him as he dies saying "I love you".
The man says "Never be afraid to admit that".

Also the seen where the kid is stuck on the cliff and the wolves are below wanting to eat him.
The way the old man, tells him that if he panics and falls the wolves will spread him around make the plants grow, or he can use the two strongest muscles nature gave (His legs) him to climb the cliff.
He says if you make it up here we will cook this rabbit I caught and have a
nice stew.
This film was so heavy to me at the time (A young child),
Now as a 40 year adult I think about the wisdom of the film.

It isn't on DVD ?
That really surprises me.
It's such an amazing film.
I don't understand why we don't hear more about it.
This film touched me when I was a young teenager.
The messages come back to visit me, 26 years later as a forty year old man.

I have been trying to figure out the title of this film for years, describing it to everyone and wondering how i will find it again. i thought it was young ricky schroder as the star but then was confused by the title The Earthling when I tried to research it on IMDB. I am going to find a copy I swear!

if you don't win it doesn't matter, as long as you lose like a winner!

OMG, I FOUND IT!!

I can relate - this movie has eluded me for nearly 29+ years (jeez, am I that old?! ha ha). Or, "was eluding me", because as of ~5mins ago, I rediscovered The Earthling!!!!

Can I just tell all of you that I've been searching online for years with no luck (including imdb's fancy advanced keyword search). Today, I decided to give one more try...

And what do you know! I finally found it buried away, mentioned in the comments section on a site with a 70's cult movie guide. [ I won't post the link, but if it helps others, the site is called Over the Edge. Please don't fuss, I'm only giving credit where due, okay! :) ]

Anyways, I want to share my excitement with other fans - mystery solved.

By the way, I complete forgot everything else about this movie (including Ricky), except for the disturbing death of his parents. Dear god, I was so shaken when I saw this! It left an enormous impact on me as a child for some reason. I suppose it was that difficult moment when a child first realizes their parents could die. ...What would happen to me if mom and dad died? Who would take care of me?... For a young child, this realization of the enevitable evokes a tremendous amount of stress and fear.

It's part of growing up. Eventually we all get over it...until we all face it later in life. (Unfortunately for my sister and me, it was only a fear years later. :( )

Wow, you can see the memories and emotions from this movie..."words come back to me" after all these years. Interesting how even the most obscure movies can have that effect on someone.

Thanks for listening.
