Was Elliott married?

SPOILER alert:

Both times that Elliott was propositioned sexually by Kate and later by, Liz, he declines on account of his wife. We never see his wife or hear her speak. After he is apprehended, there is no mention by Marino, Liz, Levy, or anyone else that he was married and the effect all of this has had on her. No line by Levy to Marino akin to, "She had no idea about any of this and was understandably in a state of shock. I gave her a mild sedative; you can interview her in the morning."

So do you guys think he made her up when he was propositioned because he couldn't perform sexually (just violently through 'Bobbi')? I feel that's the conclusion we're supposed to draw, but the film is silent on the truth of whether he was married or not.

He was his own wife

But Elliott's own incarnation of 'Bobbi' was that of a man wishing to undergo a gender reassignment surgery. If you listen to his answering machine messages, that's the way he, Dr. Elliott, made Bobbi sound.
