to anyone who has seen this, more like it, any suggestions?

My friend and I watched this movie quite a few years ago not knowing anything about it, and for some reason ALL that stayed with me was the title of it, SO we decided to rent it again and, no offense to any fans of it, we ended up laughing at a lot of it. We like horror movies that are really low budget, and I was wondering if anyone who had seen this would have any suggestions for any other movies that are similar to this that we could watch. Also, these types of movies are hard to find on dvd in our town, so it doesn't matter if they are on dvd or not, we were amazed to find out that THIS movie was on dvd, and that 2 different video stores in town had it to rent! Any suggestions anyone would have as to what is similar we could watch would be appreciated. I am thinking along the lines of KILLER PARTY, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, PRIVATE PARTS (NOT the Howard Stern movie), movies that are similar to that. Thanks!

If you find this sort of film fun, I suggest trying to get Valentin's Day, MothersDay,dont Look in the Basement, The Burning, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and last but CERTAINTLY not least-Tourist Trap. Best of luck to you, JZ

Wow you've seen one too many horror movies.

I'm surprised that no one recommended 'MANIAC' and 'Nightmare in a Damaged Brain'. Both these films are in the same vein of 'Don't Go in the House' and even gorier than it. Also a little more disturbing.

Oh yeah and what about Driller Killer and Pieces (aka The chainsaw Devil)!

If you like it sleazy, check out The exterminator, pretty violent too.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Yeah I have seen too many horror movies, PIECES is a good time and so is (in an odd way I can't describe) THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO...

you listed Scalps and The Slayer right next to eachother. I'm assuming you rented the same double pack VHS that contained both those films as a double feature just like i did? har har har....

NORTHVILLE CEMETARY MASSACRE is one worth seeking out. It's a fun violent biker flick from the 70's. Plenty of splattery 'blood squib' gunshots. Hasn't been released on DVD yet, and the original VHS is kind of hard to find. Some "Mom & Pop" video stores may still have a copy. I definitely recommend this one. You can also find people selling DVD-r copies on eBay for pretty cheap.

STREET TRASH is another fun and gory flick released on DVD by Synapse not too long ago. A convenience store owner finds some strange, dusty cases of liquor in his basement and starts selling them to the local bums. Once they drink the toxic hooch they melt down (or blow up)in all sorts of gooey ways. There's also a bunch of other unsavory stuff going on. One scene involving a game of "keep away" with a certain part of the human anatomy is absolutely hilarious.

Try John Russo's Midnight from 1982. Very low budget, and I found it to be very Funny for a Horror Film, you and your friend will most likely find it funnier than Don't Go In The House.

Bloodsucking Freaks is a good sicko horror film from back in the day. More offensive and laughable than any Don't Go In..... movie. Luther The Geek also shouldn't be overlooked. Another variation on the psycho killer theme. As for monster movies from those days check out The Video Dead, CHUD, Demons, Zombie Nightmare, Spookies, The Deadly Spawn... it really doesn't end... plus any Troma movie can usually provide a laugh and a shock (usually at once). Terror Firmer, Class Of Nuke'Em High, Blood Hook, Dead Dudes In The House are a couple. Flicks I've seen recently that I enjoyed on a somewhat cheesy level are Scalps, Basket Case 3, The Outing, Demonwarp, Bloody Movie, Street Trash, Grotesque. Alright.

You should read this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_nasty

on the video nasty phenonmenon in England. It is interesting reading, and there is a list of movies that were banned in England at the time, including this one.

I am big fan of the hospital horror theme like "Hospital Massacre" anyone know of other good titles????

reply

I've not seen many of these, including the one that the thread is about.

Two that I did see tho, were "Patrick" (circa 1978) and Bad Ronald, with Kim Hunter, which came out about the same time.

Neither is extremely gory (in fact, neither was gory at all), but they are both at this same era, as cheaply done and promise suspense. Anyone who wants to check them out, I'll let you judge how much they deliver.

I actually saw something to Bad Ronald. I don't know what to think of what I recall of Patrick.

For anyone wanting to make sure what movie I am referring to, it is where Patrick is in a coma in the hospital and communicates with the nurse with 'spitting' noises.
