Loved it, but......

I just looked at photos of the real Loretta, and Sissy was great, but every time I've seen this movie, I thought something was off with her portrayal (yes, I know she won the Oscar). Finally figured it out... they should have put Loretta's nose on Sissy! I know they had the makeup technology in 1980. This is the only problem I have with this movie. Of course, now, a biographical movie wouldn't hesitate to do whatever it takes to make the actor look like the real person. (Think Tom Hanks as Walt Disney or Steve Carrell in Foxcatcher, and there are numerous other examples.) It's just a common thing now. Otherwise, a great film with a remarkable story.

Meh I think they did a pretty perfect job with this film. I've never thought it's that important, though, for the actor to look exactly like the subject. Kinda close is good enough for me, especially with powerful performances like these.

I'd say resemblances are overrated and can be distracting. Almost as bad as actors trying to get an accent right. The essence is all that matters.
