Ziegfield Premiere
Oy, where does the time go? Thirty-one years have come and gone since this film opened yet I remember the NY premiere at the Ziegfield as if it were yesterday. My late hubby was into PR then and we were invited by Mr. Carr himself. There was no doubt this was going to be the biggest hit ever. Bigger than Grease!! The spread and cocktails in the lobby were lavish. I remember Ashford & Simpson made a big arrival. I was drinking champagne when I was suddenly shouted to by my dear old friend, the gorgeous Julie Newmar. Funny the things you remember. Julie pulled me to the side to tell me that at nearly 47 she was going to have her first child. She was so happy.
After everyone entered the theater, my hubby grabbed my arm and pointed toward the exit. "The movie is %$#&" he said, "Let's get a drink". On our way out of the theater we ran smack into Paul Sand (Paul, Where are you?) and his date who were doing the same thing. The four of us had a wonderful time (lots of laughs) before meeting up with everyone else after the film ended. I miss those days.
