Worst song?

Wow, there are so many horrible songs in this astonishingly entertaining movie, it's hard to settle on one, but I must hand it to the Ritchie Family for "Give Me a Break." This song is so bad, it probably caused the family's estrangement.

Honorable mention: "Samantha," "Liberation," "I Love You to Death," "Milkshake" and, of course, "Can't Stop the Music."

Anyone else want to nominate your pick for the worst song?

It has been a long time since I saw this movie but I remember thinking "Samantha" was just atrocious ! As a semi-professional musician, I hope I never even come close to degrading myself in such a manner.

Maceachaidh, tou are so right that "I Love You to Death" is morbid when you consider that the AIDS epidemic was right around the corner.

About the same time as this film, the Village People released a song called "Ready for the '80s" from their "Live and Sleazy" album. I've always thought that song was sadly ironic, because I don't think any of us were ready for the '80s and the tragedies it would bring!

"I Love You to Death" had the worst singing, most repetitious and unimaginative lyrics, and direst physical presentation, hands down. And the attempt to surround one of the least charismatic Village People with a lot of flirtatious scantily-clad women (presumably to interest the straight men in the audience) was sub-hopeless.

I actually think "Sound of the City" works for that NYC opening montage, and "Give Me a Break" is HOT, but the rest of it... just dreck. "I Love You to Death," "Liberation, and "Samantha" lack any semblance of what makes the VP's hit singles so much fun.

I really liked Samantha, it really sticks in your head, but the rest of the songs were pretty bad!

"Milkshake." Hands down.

I've always thought a good subtitle for "Can't Stop the Music" would be: "But that shouldn't keep you from trying."

And, theroyalscam1, Steely Dan is what I call music!

They got me through my teen years too ... but in my case, it was a very long time ago.

I think "I Love You to Death" could be a good rock song if it were sung with a faster tempo and good vocals.

Then again, I might be stoned after watching this movie.

Basically every song in the movie sucks. But I found "I Love You to Death" to be the worst. The vocals by David Hodo (construction worker) are atrocious.

"I Love You To Death."
Samantha was a little bad too.

It's a shame they didn't sing some of their other cheesy pop standards such as "Macho Man", "Go West" and "In The Navy". With the exception of the title song and (of course) "YMCA" the songs are pretty God-awful in this movie.

I'll have to cast my vote for "I Love You to Death."

"Samantha" and "Sound of the City" are both massively hokey but also major guilty pleasures of mine. BTW, both of them were sung by a guy billed at the time as "David London," who later went to sing for various cheesy 80s soft-rock bands including Toto at one point.

I'm going to have to say that 'Sound Of The City,' 'Samantha,' and 'Magic Night' are all catchy - the only song that I really didn't care for was 'Milkshake.' I actually have this soundtrack on CD - can't remember when they re-issued it but what a find! As bad as the movie is, it's a fun trip back in time. Not as good as say, "Roller Boogie," which is amazing, but still fun for disco/bad movie fanatics.

S-s-s-Samantha made me want to do a header out the window.
