Caligula (Director's Cut)
"One thing's for certain: When Tuschinski's/Brass' version of Caligula is released, it'll be the talk of the art world—and possibly the political world—around the globe."

As a fan of everything related to the film Caligula, but not so much the uncut film itself, I want to share this everywhere I can. Penthouse, under Kelly Holland's leadership, is finally releasing the Tinto Brass version or "Director's Cut" of Caligula. 85 minutes of Tinto Brass' original workprint exists. Alexander Tuschinski, probably the most famous enthusiast of the film, will construct the remainder of the film based on his advanced knowledge of the film and Tinto's distinct style (see his thesis below). Tinto may or may not be involved. Please note that Tinto does approve of Alexander's preliminary edit.

Instead of a porno revolved around a madman, the film will be a political satire about the nature of power. Caligula will initially be portrayed as power hungry later to evolve into the "ultimate anarchist", as Malcolm McDowell stated of his character. His purpose being to provoke the elites of Rome into acting in the best interest of the empire, and the people, rather than in self interest. Of course they prove to be too fearful to stand up to his tyranny.
This will be an entirely different film basically. The edit will be radically different than Bob Guccione's version. It'll be much more comedic, political, fast paced and void of hardcore pornography. share
