Can they ever do a movie like this again?
Can they ever do a movie like this again?
Big budget, Big stars movie with such explict unsimulated sex scences in it. I don't think so.

Why the quotation marks around the words 'Big Stars'?
Surely you're not saying that O'toole, Gielgud, Miren and McDowell wern't big in the seventies?

Malcolm Mcdowell, was also VERY well known at the time, because of the film, Time After Time.

Time after Time was shot after Caligula.
He was known for Clockwork Orange at the time.

That may be so, but I live in the U.S. and Caligula wasn't released in U.S. theatres until, 1980.You can look it up( says Feb. 1st where I looked) and being a kid at the time, and having watched Time After Time on cable, well before Caligula first hit U.S. theatres, I remember very well, because my mother had a huge crush on McDowell because of TAT, and went to see Caligula. She says it was her first porn, ha ha.
shareThe world has changed a lot since then. With lighter regulation, you're more likely to see a big budget historical cumfest funded and released by the porn industry itself.
As to whether 'big stars' would be in it, this is a moot point as the main characters didn't really feature in hardcore sex scenes, while nowdays porn stars are celebs in their own right.

It was a pathetic mess with no artistic vision or any attempt from the "actors" to actually emote or have screen presence
Exactly. So, the porn industry HAS produced a movie just like Caligula.

Although the Porn industry did produce the two PIRATES films.
And they were entertaining films, genuiniely funny as well, in and of themselves. The second one actually had a pretty good story to it that made as much sense as any Hollywood blockbuster tends to do.
It was the first Porno that I've seen that successfully bridged the gap between Porn and mainstream.

Nope don't think it could happen again, does everyone realize the "big stars" in this movie was duped and betrayed by the director?
I just read an article about how the director after filming the regular scenes with the actors (all the non-porno like scenes), he went about and picked up a cast of penthouse pets and lied to them about being a big budget Bond film. He filmed this secretly in the studio and by himself, after lying to the penthouse pets.
The actors only found out about it AFTER the film was finished and the director, behind closed doors edited the porno scenes with the other regular scenes.
Of course they feel betrayed and some got their names removed from the film, but that didn't stop the bastard director from releasing it.
So unless some director pulls a cheap trick like this again, this movie is the last of it's kind.
The pets were in scenes with the main actors, so they knew full well they were in a film about Caligula, not Moonraker.
