Wow... Plot hole!

At the end of the movie, before the final putting, they were tied. Judge sinks his but his partner misses. Ty misses. If the kid misses his shot, he and Ty lose, as Ty says.

Kid sinks his putt and then Rodney/Ty celebrate the win.... Except they were one stroke behind, so that shot would mean the game is back to a tie.

Liked the movie, but they should have paid attention to that.

I have seen this movie dozens of times and I never noticed that. This calls for an emergency viewing!

I looked it up, the idea is that the bet was saved from a tie by Al's double or nothing bet on that one last putt (which technically didn't go in and too much time had lapsed, rules say a ball at rest for 12 seconds is done)

Of course 'double or nothing' means Judge didn't have to pay anything. That's what the 'nothing' means. So Rodney's character became a sudden robber.

Yes, it's actually an incorrect application of what's called a "press." However, even though it's used incorrectly, it still shows how much of an idiot Smails was in that situation and how he let his "out-of-control ego" get the best of him.
