Ted Knight steals the show...

A classic like Caddyshack is filled with comedic geniuses like Murray, Dangerfield and Chase all at their best...One person outshines them all...Ted Knight...His portrayal of Judge Smails is the best performance in Caddyshack and that's saying a lot...His mannerisms and facial expressions are priceless...His dialogue is some of the funniest of all time...The old "Billy Baroo", "Well, we're waiting" and "You'll get nothing and like it" make me laugh every time...

I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed...

Agreed. He is outstanding.

"How about a Fresca?"

reply

Agreed - classic Ted Knight comedy here. Seems like every time I watch it I'm zoned in a little more on his lines.

All the key players are pretty damn funny in this one.

and yet stealing will get you kicked out of bushwood country club.

I agree. Knight was a hoot in Caddyshack. Chevy Chase mentioned in an interview some years ago that looking back, Knight probably gave the best performance of the bunch (or something to that effect).

"Are you my pal, Danny?"

To this day, there is Fresca in my fridge because of this movie. Just so I can say "How about a Fresca?" to friends and family like the Judge.

I loved his,"You'll get nothing and like it!" line too!!! Anyone know if that was scripted or improvised, cuz it was an awesome line!!!!

"George is dead. Call me back."
RING. Hello?
"Hi. It's George."

I heard Ted Knight never improvised, or improved, his lines ever because he got pissed off when he saw the cast members riffing on the script. He said it threw his timing off, or something.

This was Ted Knight's final movie. I wonder if it's because of the heavy improv and big egos on this set. I used to watch him on Too Close for Comfort growing up, and watching Mary Tyler Moore in reruns and syndication. But for his last film role, it was very iconic, historical and classic.

This was Ted Knight's final movie.
He went out on a really high note. The movie wouldn't have been the same without him.

Ted was funny in everything.

He regularly stole the show in The Mary Tyler Moore show.
