most frustrating charlie brown movie...

first off I DID like this movie, my four year old is a big charlie brown fan, and i love taking a break from spongebob squarepants to watch some classic charlie brown.

However, as pretty as the art is, and as nice as the voice acting is on it, the script and especially the dialogue is very frustrating. Did anyone else find this movie trying on the nerves?...especially compared with most other charlie brown movies.

the scene at the french school when peppermint patty just went ON AND ON about how much "chuck" was annoying her really pissed me off. one of the first times i wanted to go find the scriptwriter (or charles schulz even) and just kick them in the head repeatedly... grr.

otherwise this was a good kids movie and it kept my little one entertained, so i can't complain too much about it lol.

maybe, but years and years after first seeing it as a kid myself, I think that whole sequence where Snoopy and Woodstock are getting drunk in the French pub is just great (and the opposite of the Peppermint Patty onslaught of dialog). Maybe I just have too fond a memory of it from childhood (and the french bread, hehe)

oh yeah i finally watched it again today, that Rum and Coca-Cola song they're playing on the jukebox while Snoopy and Woodstock are getting piss drunk in the pub is priceless.

it is one of the most beautiful charlie brown movies i've ever seen. its such a pleasing break from the usual baseball diamand antics and adults speaking in Waah waah waaah

i guess you really do have to watch it like 10 times before that classroom scene where peppermint patty is going ape on chuck starts to become a bit more "classic"

I'd be interested to know how exactly Snoopy was getting drunk, given the fact that ALL the glasses he was drinking said ROOT BEER on the side!

And I don't recall Woodstock drinking a drop of anything.

I always find Peppermint Patty pretty annoying, mostly because whenever she's around, it's always just about her, Marcie, Snoopy and "Chuck", often excluding the other characters. Her personality annoys me to no end, too.

More than anywhere else in this movie though-- that classroom scene especially. It was just far too long, and no, watching it repeatedly won't make it a "classic" for me.

Yeah, and then Charlie Brown finally fires back and the sheer sound of his voice sends her flying off her chair. Heh heh, I've always hated Peppermint Patty, she's such a bitch.

heh heh, i know this is like a year late and all... but as far as how can i discern that snoopy is getting drunk from the glass that says ROOT BEER.... jeezus. haven't you ever mixed some alky into your Barqs? haven't you ever ordered a Rum and MUG? and even if YOU haven't, what does that mean if someone else does it. and a DOG no less. ITS A F**CKING childrens flick, and they animated snoopy to be inebriated... look at his actions. not exactly sober if you ask me.

And for the record, yes i'm arguing this point out of sheer redundancy for humor. hopefully someone will come back and read this stupid board and remember just how dumb peppermint patty is that she can't see her own best friend (read lesbian lover) cheating on her with the one french p%n#s that she actually wanted to F#%K.

still, i like charlie brown. and it is a pretty movie. just frieken frustrating at parts. thanks for the love everyone!

I find it interesting that

1.) the airlines let a dog into first class;

2.) four young kids in elementary school fly to Europe without parental or teacher supervision;

3.) the car rental place agreed to sign over a rental car to a dog;

4.) no one thought it unusual a dog could actually drive;

5.) Snoopy can get drunk on root beer.

Very cute movie, nonetheless! A classic!! I love Peanuts!!

Men are like bank accounts. Without a lot of money, they don't generate much interest.

This is Snoopy (and a cartoon). You're supposed to suspend your disbelief.

My son is 13 and high functioning autistic. He loves Charlie Brown. One thing he does is he puts milk in wine glasses, calls it "white wine" and sometimes "teases" he's drunk. He's afraid of real alcohol and knows getting "really drunk" is bad. He also knows his "white wine" is just a joke and giggles like mad at his "funny" idea.

I kind of think that humor is what they were going for with Snoopy "getting drunk" on Root Beer. It's supposed to be a funny joke that he's drinking that and it makes him act drunk. I don't think it is meant to be spiked/mixed with real alcohol. I honestly think it's supposed to be he's drinking root beer and getting drunk off of it.

Personally, I found that scene hilarious. This has been my favorite Charlie Brown since I was little. I always interpreted the way I listed it above, even as a kid.

I never liked Peppermint Patty so her scene at the school didn't bother me. She's supposed to be annoying and over the top. Every school has a girl like her.

And based on that, in Family Guy, you can see that Brian is babysitting stewie yet having a guy's time with Peter Griffin and even score with hot dates all the time, so now you know it's normal for a dog to behave like an uncle of the house.

I actually agree with you. I did see all the Charlie Brown movies just a few days ago and this is the most frustrating..

Not only because of Peppermint Patty, but there are some other facts too..

1) You can hear the adults talk. If you'd read the comics or seen the earlier cartoons you understand the difference. I've also heard some criticism about it, but I like the fact that the adult voices are so unimportant that you cannot even hear them.

2) The cartoon was actually quite full of foreign language which was very well done. But still the Baron talked only English - not only to Violette, but also in the bar. I have no idea why (and I do believe that it is quite far fetched that the Baron wouldn't speak French at all). And if that is the case - no reason for that is given either.

I agree it would be very unlikely for the Baron to speak only English in the pub, but I think they did it because there wouldn't be anyone to translate, and they didn't want to do subtitles. In the other parts of the movie where people spoke French, you had Marcie to translate.

I believe Charlie Brown "bothering" Peppermint Patty comes from one of the comics.

This gag was originally in a strip where Charlie Brown temporarily goes to school in Peppermint Patty and Marcie's neighborhood. I think they also repeated it in animated form on The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
