I found out the answer--it's in the book. Julian doesn't want to sit out on the terrace with the two ladies because they're lesbians, like Anne is.
shareI just thought it had to do with the same reason he explained to michelle about why he wasn't interested in younger women. for him they were just too "easy" so to say. So I guess when one has bigger fish to fry, spending time with two of Anne's young "friends/possessions" isn't too inspiring.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the two
women were topless. I took Julian's response to
mean "No way, I'm not gonna sit out there with them
and get all hot and bothered," showing perhaps that
he was not just a hedonist but had some scruples.
