Stupidest Man On Earth

Don't get me wrong, I like the movie. It's fun, it's good for laughs. Stylish, sexy, great clothes, great settings, and a good cast.

I hadn't seen this in many years and watched it on Netflix today on a whim. What really struck me was how incredibly stupid Julian Cade was. The first segment shows you a high end whore intent on burning all his bridges because he arrogantly thinks he is too hot to be bothered with playing by the rules of his trade.

Then, in the second segment of the movie when he is facing hard time due to being framed for murder, he struts around the police shaking his ass and acting like he is too important to be bothered with their murder investigation. When the people he alienated in the beginning of the film come and offer their help to clear his name (and save him from life in prison), instead of being grateful he spits on their help and tells them directly that he won't be returning any favors. Really?

It amazes me that this character that is intelligent enough to charm all these society types, can speak multiple languages, and was a star in his 'profession' could possibly be such a complete and utter fool in the face of such dire consequences.

But, all of that aside, it's a fun movie as long as you just turn your mind off and enjoy the ride.

I don't think Julian Kaye was that dumb. He was young, pompous, and full of himself, but he had a false sense of security. People he thought were his friends weren't. He didn't know he offended them with his arrogance. He was just being himself and secretly these people were seething.

Leon was only trying to save himself as a pimp. He knew if the blonde boy went down, he would probably go down to as the pimp who set up the trick.

The madame was only interested in one thing:Money. Julian thought she would be empathetic about him needed to branch out and move on, but she took everything personally.

Det. Sunday was a jerk. Plain and simple. If this movie lacked ANY-thing, it was lacking a scene where that jerk got knocked out cold by Julian Kaye. He also disliked Julian's pomposity. But Julian wasn't following this jerk around. He was following Julian around. Again, Julian was just being himself and the jerk took it personal. He seemed to relish sticking the screws in Julian and watch him squirm under the threat of arrest prosecution and conviction. Jerk.

The women Julian was "servicing". They turned their backs on him. In the end, it was all about sex and money. Strictly business. When he needed an alibi, they were nowhere to be found.

No Julian was not dumb. He was naive....until the end of the movie.

Det. Sunday was jealous and seemed to have something against Julian, like you said he was a jerk and took it personal. I know Julian was kind of a wise guy with him but he seemed to be after him because he didn't like his profession.

Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours

I agree with Mijacology.

Thanks to everyone who agrees, and thanks to everyone who doesn't. If we all had the same opinions we'd be bored all the time.

It's a movie. Whatever you see...is what it is to you.

In a partial agreement with the OP, anyone can see who Julian's harsh way of dealing with Mr. Rheiman when Julian first appeared to do the trick sort of set him up as a fall guy in Rheiman's cover up scheme. I just think it's going a little too far to call Julian unintelligent.

Detective Sunday is obnoxious and unattractive. I agree that he is jealous of Julian. I can't believe he asked Julian how he could do what he does.

no you are the one that is stupid

julian starts off in this movie as cold and distant with his clothes and posh suits

when he falls in love his character is stripped apart and he realises his whole life is just a fake

reality has hit him, he finds the love he has been looking for
