I just watched the Catalina Video version, which is much more rare than the Lightening Video version. This version is 98 minutes long. I was hoping for extended gore scenes, but I don't think there are any. It kinda seems like the tv version of the movie, since any swearing is dubbed over pretty poorly. Anyone ever compare the two versions? I would if I had them both. By the way, I have the movie the Great Alligator, and I thought it sucked!
I have both copies of the film. Catalina has scenes that aren't in any other version on vhs formats. Below are the differences...
CATALINA HAS:
EXTENDED SCENES:
-WITH MARISSA KENDAL AND HER PARENTS ON A HIGH WAY. HER FATHER IS OUT TRYING TO COVER THE HOOD OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE RAIN COMING IN. MARISSA'S MOM TELLS HER HUSBAND TO HURRY THAT SHE HAS TO GO TINKLE. MARISSA'S MOMS LOOKS TO Marissa and tells her to keep her fingers outside of the box, the one ramon is in. marissa's dad comes back in and her mom asks what happened and he says it stopped raining.
-a longer sewer scene. Where, it really takes Robert Forster 2-3 minutes(i may be exagerating) to find kelly. later after he finds kelly, before they head back up, they try to leave and ytou here a car beeping.
-a scene where they are searching and talking with people on the streets asking about the alligator and it's where abouts.
- a scene where the alligator breaks into a house while a mother is on the phone. the daughter hears the alligator come. her mother comes back out from the phoine and sees her daughter missing. she sees the damage the alligator caused and calls her daughter amy, unly to find her hiding under a basket.
- a scene after robert forster gets fied, shows him coming oput of a store walking snapps and holding a bag of groceries. he goes on a pay phone and calls marissa. her mom answers and he gets some sort of info from her mom. he then hangs up, picks up his dog and show his dog a graffiti on the payphone booth that shows an alligator eating somebody...he tells his dog"you see one of these guys, you go south, got it?" he then leaves.
-the scene with robin riker and robert forster in bed is much longer, affter she says "you can't blame yourself from surviving," robert adds, a guy said i needed a wig, outta the bloew. he asks her what do you think and she goes well, and he says don't mention it.
-- a scene where we see fforster making the bomb.
however, this version cuts one scene which is in the lightning video one.
- a scene where the alligator is walking the streets.
in the catalina, all profanity is cut out. even the gore in it. in the lighting, all gore is shown, but the extended scenes are cut out and the profanity is heard.
there you go with the comparisons. i hope u appreciate it.
I have the a DVD-R recorded from the Catalina version (the only one I have been able to get my hands on) which I have been watching since 1999, when I was 8. great movie, had no idea that those were extended scenes. but most of the gore is cut so there's a drawback. and yeah, ALL of the profanity is gone. I'm gonna try my hardest to find both, but I am waitng for BLockbuster to sell their Catalina video...
