ok, it was made in the early 80's I imagine, but was set in the Amazon and featured natives. I distinctly remember one scene of a girl in a canoe nad dragging her hand in the water nad the gator comes for her, wish I could remember the name of the flick

It might be "The Great Alligator".

Rocky VI must happen! Sean Penn said so!

Yeah it's called The Great Alligator and some places have it as The Great Alligator River. It stars Barbara Bach.
