The Lions Gate DVD is NOT the uncut version!

I'm happy this movie finally came out on DVD, but I thought it was worth mentioning that the cut of the film they use on the new Lions Gate DVD is not complete.

The original cut of the film contains a scene where the alligator attacks a mother and her baby in their back yard. The mother is hanging up sheets and the baby goes missing. She panics for a moment, then finds the baby unharmed under a laundry basket. Then suddenly the alligator comes crashing through a fence at them, and the scene ends, so we presume the alligator "got" them.

It's odd that this was not included in the new DVD. I wonder if the scene just got cut and went missing, or if the scene was deliberately left out because it implied that a baby was killed.

I didn't know about that scene. It must have never been included in any of the copies that i've seen here in the U.K.

Well, there is the scene where that birthday boy falls off the pool diving board and into the alligator's mouth, so I guess maybe the filmmakers thought one child's death more than enough. In other words, if that scene didn't exist, then the mother-and-baby death scene would have probably been included.

So have you seen this part, or just heard about it? If you saw it, where was it?

I saw the scene where the alligator attacks the mother and baby. It was part of the TV print of "Alligator", so perhaps it was footage that was not used for the theatrical print but was added to the film when it was shown on television. No explicit violence is present in the scene, so it would work well on television.

Yup. Just saw this in glorious 35mm in a theater, and that scene was NOT in it. Must have been the TV version..and I had forgotten how awesome this movie was. Great monster flick in every way...

The Lions Gate version is the original. The VHS with these extra scenes is not. To say this is not the uncut version is like saying the theatrical version of Halloween is not uncut because it doesn't have the TV scenes from the extended version. Alligator was originally presented with these scenes absent so this is the original cut.

Also, I'm pretty sure that scene you described is in the movie Grizzly. I remember the laundry basket bit and all the point of view stuff. I wonder if they stuck a scene from Grizzly in Alligator when it was on TV...

The baby/laundry scene was used for the television airings. It was not in the theatrical releases. There was no violence in the scene. The woman is outside hanging up clothes, her phone rings, she goes inside to answer leaving the baby out in the yard. You hear a crashing sound offscreen. The woman gets off the phone and goes back outside. Her back yard is a mess and she becomes hysterical as her baby is missing. She approaches an upturned laundry basket and turns it over and finds the baby. The scene then cuts away. The alligator did not attack either the baby, nor the mother.

This scene was not in the theatrical/Lightning cut, I don't believe. Because the current TV cut is just an edited version of the Lightning version if I'm not mistaken.

THis IS however an old deleted scene that was in an old TV cut. It ALSO is in the Catalina Video VHS version. That tape is pretty hard to find (I was lucky to live in a town where my Blockbuster had it!) but it has that scene alogn with a bunch of other deleted scene. Unfortunately though, it does cut out most of the gore. I remember that was the version I always thought was the normal edition, and I was a little upset that SciFi didn't paly it... but yeah, it's only in the Catalina/old TV cut.
