The alligator is named Ramon?!

This is the synopsis of the out of print region-free version on Amazon: "A vicious alligator named Ramon, who was flushed into the city sewer as a baby, survives to become a 32-foot-long menace who devours animals and people alike. Ramon's so huge because of the steady diet of dead pets - treated with growth hormones - that he's fed on for 12 years. Now the tremendous brute is angry and looking for revenge. Only detective David Madison knows of Ramon's existence, and it is his task to prove to the rest of the city that a tropical beast lives in their midst. Veteran screenwriter Sayles' script finds the perfect blend of comedy and horror, making this an entertaining romp through the sewers of Chicago."

Just one question. It's been a long time since I've seen this (although I just ordered my copy off of Amazon), but at what point in the movie do they name the alligator RAMON? I didn't realize we get to be that personable with the alligator.

Yup. The same little girl is the herpetologist all grown up. She mentions having a baby gator as a child, but doesn't realize the big one's her pet all grown up.

Dracula: Blood has always been the coin of our realm. (Dracula 2000).

If only she had realized it. Imagine the mild hilarity that would ensue as everyone in the movie only refers to the alligator as Ramon.

David Madison have many posters on the wall of his bedroom with the legend "Ramon".

Bwahaha! In the hands of lesser filmmakers (yeah), that WOULD have been in the movie. And my God, I would've loved it.

I hear his theme music, he's around here somewhere...

Well she wouldn't know since her parents told her that Ramon died after her dad flushed him down the toilet. Too bad so many uneducated people actually buy baby critters they have no business owning.

reply

they never refer to him by name as an adult, only as a baby.
