'Breaker Morant' No 83 on my all time favourites list

Would you rate it much higher or lower on your list? What movies do you prefer? ty

Hmmm. 'Breaker Morant' is definitely inside my Top50. No doubt. Since you asked the films I regard most highly are "The Godfather"...parts 1 & 2. 'The Hill' is a fine Sean Connery film that looks at the more hypocritical side of war...just like 'Breaker Morant'. In terms of war movies it's hard to improve upon two classics that were released the same year: 'Patton' and 'Tora, Tora, Tora'.

Cheers!

Oh, and my favorite actress is a young gal named Camilla Belle. Steve McQueen would be a solid choice as my favorite non-Italian actor; i.e. - De Niro, Pacino, Joe Pesci, etc...

Breaker Morant is a great film as well as the Godfather movies. I haven't seen the hill, Patton nor Tora tora tora yet. I'll put them on my watch list.

Have you seen Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, Peter Weir's Gallipoli or 'Coppola's' Apocalypse Now? I think they are three of the finest war movies I have seen.

'Gallipoli' is an incredibly intense film...loved it. The finale brings a tear every time. 'Apocalypse Now' is similar to the Godfather films in that you could quote from it ALL DAY LONG. Love the scene at the semi-abandoned camp with the Playboy bunnies...must have been a bear to film that in what looks to be a monsoon.

;)

And, believe it or not, 'Full Metal Jacket' has always kind of let me down. I like Kubrick...but I know I prefer his WW1 movie (with Kirk Douglas) much more. I'm sure I'll remember the title just as soon as I post this. And definitely watch 'The Hill'. OMG!

Cheers!

The Kubrick film you're referring to is called Paths of Glory and I was reminded of it as I just watched Breaker Morant for the first time. I don't usually go in for war films, but these two are really extremely good films.

Agreed. Doesn't get much better than 'Breaker Morant' and 'Paths of Glory'. And, in its own way, maybe I'd put 'Patton' up there too.

I don't know how I missed seeing Breaker Morant for so long. I'd heard of it for years but just never got around to seeing it until last night. Beresford has made such diverse films. I mean, how different can films be than Breaker Morant and Driving Miss Daisy?

Edward Woodward was just fantastic as Breaker. I've been a fan of his since seeing him in The Wicker Man.

Now I have to see Gallipoli - another film that I have managed not to see.

Other recommendations: Wake in Fright (a very different Jack Thompson than in Breaker Morant) and Walkabout.
