Why was Bosom Buddies cancelled?

Why was this show cancelled? I haven't been able to find out why. This show was (and still is) incredibly funny and well written and acted.

Well, it was a little before my time, but I guess it just wasn't bringing in the ratings. In defense of the show, it had a crazy schedule the second season, sometimes vanishing for over a month at a time. I'm sure people didn't know where or when to find new episodes, and then you combine that with the fact that the original premise(men in drag) was all but done away with, and I'd say it's understandable why ratings declined. It's too bad, I actually think the second season had some of the funniest episodes, and I agree with you on the acting, but the writing was kinda hit or miss.

ABC's sitcom ratings were slipping when "Bosom Buddies" was on the air. The show was generally paired with "Mork and Mindy," which had steadily declining ratings beginning in the second season, when they dropped the bulk of the cast and tried to moralize the show. The first season of "BB" stayed nestled after "M&M" on Thursday nights, and ABC's Thursday night shows weren't faring all that great in the ratings. Season 2 of "BB" bounced back and forth on Thursday and Friday nights... and again, "Mork and Mindy" is somewhat to blame for its ultimate cancellation. The final season of "M&M" found Mork giving birth to full-grown baby Mirth (Jonathan Winters), and this twist ran off droves of viewers. By the end of the season, ABC cleaned house and canceled half of their sitcoms ("Mork and Mindy," "Bosom Buddies," "Maggie," "It's a Living," "Best of the West," "Barney Miller," etc.).

When "Splash" became a massive success in 1984, NBC tried to cash in on it by airing reruns of "Bosom Buddies," and with Hanks now being a big-named star, it wasn't long afterward that the show went into syndication -- which is something pretty unheard of for a series that has so few episodes (a show generally isn't syndicated unless there's 60 to 80 episodes; "BB" has 37 episodes).

I used to watch the show in syndication when I was young. I didn't realize it had so few episodes. I remember them revamping the show a couple times that gave me the perception the show lasted longer.

Me fail English? But, that's unpossible.

Because ABC was, and is, run by idiots.

I recall that the ratings during the second had dropped. Personally, I thought that they were still good enough to warrant a third season. It was a better show than the other crap they were showing at the time!
