I'd like to see Anchor Bay release this on DVD...

Who else agrees? Anchor Bay does a great job on their DVDs, great picture and lots of features, and most of their films are of this type anyway - classic '70s/'80s horror movies.

The Full Moon DVD release of this was a little cheap if you ask me. It was good, I'm happy to have this on DVD at all, but I think the overall DVD quality could've been better. The extras were okay, the menus were kind of boring, and the picture could've been slightly better. Nothing major, I just think Anchor Bay could do a phenomenal job with this if they ever did release it.

Nah, if Anchor Bay released the DVD, the best they could do is improve the picture maybe a little, and have a trailer. That's it.

The Full Moon version has commentary by the director, interview with the director, trailers, and merchandise information.

Full Moon's DVD is great.

Full Moon's DVD is good, not great. The commentary is great, but there could have been more bonus featuers. It's only a matter of time before this movie is released in a better version, which will include (uh, duh) the short film that lead to this movie being made.

The Full Moon DVD of "Tourist Trap" is more than I ever would have imagined for this movie. A very clean widescreen transfer with director commentary - for an obscure, barely cult horror film from the 70s that was just more than I ever would have dreamed of. Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorites (I paid almost $25 for the DVD the day it came out; now you can get it for less than $10) but the fact that there's a DVD with as many features as there are is pretty amazing.

Still I would gladly double-dip for another edition with Schmoeller's student film on which this was based and commentary or interviews from the cast. Too bad Connors isn't around anymore to offer his memories of the experience.

And while I'm dreaming, how about an isolated version of Donaggio's beautiful score? Since Varese Sarabande doesn't seem to have plans to ever release this on CD it would be great to have the soundtrack available digitally on the DVD at least.

reply

Roughly 15 years ago, Varese Sarabande did release a 20-minute selection of Donaggio's score on a special CD club pressing called "Pino Donaggio: Symphonic Suites," that also featured music from "The Howling," "Pirahna," and "Home Movies." Obviously, the full scores of both "The Howling" and "Pirahna" have since been re-released on disc, so perhaps we have only to wait for "Trap." However, if you can find a copy of the earlier disc, it's well worth it.

I have a tune or 2 on an LP which features original tracks from
Maniac, Martin, Escape from New York and Tourist Trap.
I'll have a look when I get homwe from work to see what its called.

I still love the Full Moon DVD. But if Anchor Bay did release a DVD, it would have to be like a Two-Disc Ultimate Edition. Have new interviews with the cast and crew, and new cast commentary, Deleted Scenes, Outakes, Production Notes, Still Gallery, and a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette.

Personally, I'd rather Anchor Bay kept their moneygrubbing hands off the film.
