I wonder if this is on Hollywood's 'Remake list'

After the recent release of "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and "Fright Night" I couldn't help thinking about one of my favorite old school horror films being Hollywood's latest victim.

I'm guessing it's only a matter of time.

I kind of doubt it, though. This is a great film, but unknown, and I guess not very popular. And it bombed, so I don't picture too many studios fighting to remake it any time soon.

It already was...House of Wax. I realize HoW was considered a remake of the Vincent Price flick but seriously...it was a remake of TT.

No one has heard of Tourist Trap so if they presented it as a remake of that no one would've gone to see it.

Some minor simularities, but I never really saw the connection.

I wouldn't say the Vincent Price HOUSE OF WAX was all that well known either, especially to the MTV generation, which the new one was basically targeting.

Fair enough but everyone knows who Vincent Price is. :)

I don't see how one could not see the connection. Two brothers who have a creepy wax museum in the middle of nowhere in a location that used to be popular and frequented by tourists but no longer are who kidnap people and turn them into wax figures and live alone in this place surrounded by animated wax figures who are actually real people.

Sure there are details that are different like in one the dead mother is the obsession and in the other the dead brother is but TT is a hell of a lot closer than HoW.

I should clarify that this is my own theory, not something I verified. I once met the director of the HoW remake and I was going to ask him about this but he wasn't very nice and didn't seem to want to talk about that movie, even though he was at a horror con to talk about his movies, haha.

Yup. The one and only thing it really has in common with HoW with Price is the title. =/

I also fully agree.

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

I'd love to see a remake of this. No doubt they'd probably fúck it up with jump scares and whatnot but there's a chance to make a really cool flick with this villain's persona. The original was just a few tweaks short of becoming a masterpiece IMO.
