another mannequin horror flick

As a child in the early 80's I'd seen (maybe on cable...?) a horror flick about mannequins, but it wasn't this one. I remember the one I saw as much scarier.
All I can recall vividly was mannequins legitimately coming alive and killing people, not just moved through telekinesis like in "Tourist Trap". I only remember two specific scenes; the first had to do with somebody putting a fake mustache on a female mannequin as a prank and apparently the mannequin didn't like it too much because later she became alive and killed him. Other than that, the final scene I believe had to do with a fire, something being set ablaze, maybe a boat...? It's hard to remember specifics from over twenty years ago.
If anybody has any clue of what I'm talking about, PLEASE REPLY. I've been searching for the movie for a long time. I suppose it was either made in the mid-to-late seventies or maybe the very early eighties.

Beats me, but i know another mannequin horror flick from the 80's called "PIN" which is about a brother and sister living together after their parents died then the brother begins to befriend a medical mannequin named "Pin" as he believes it's alive and then murders begin happening.

"Warriors come out and playyy, Warriors come out to play-ayyyyyy"-Luther from "The Warriors".

"Carry on Screaming" is a comedy -and a fairly good one. Nothing scary about it. The movie you mention doesn´t seem so good, I have to say; if you want to watch a great horror short film involving a mannequin, try to grab the episode "Everybody need a little love", from the series "Tales from the darkside" (Season 3, Episode 17). That´s a good one. Cheers!

reply

Oh, but the greatest horror film I´ve seen involving a mannequin is -no doubt- the Peter Cushing story in the British 1972 film "Asylum" (or "House of crazies"). One of the creepiest short stories I´ve ever seen...

reply

the plot keywords for Asylum does not mention any mannequin!

Well... what can I say...? I´m sorry for the plot keywords!

yes i`m kidding, i know that`s not your fault!
about creepy stories
do you saw the movie devil doll, form 1964 or dead of night from 1945 (segment Ventriloquist's Dummy)?
great movies...

I saw Dead of the Night, it is as good as all the Brit omnibus films from those years. But here I was only talking about mannequin films, ventriloquists dummy movies is a whole different universe -among those my favourites would be, I guess, "Magic" with Anthony Hopkins, and a Spanish episode from the series "historias para no dormir" called "Freddy" -impossible to get anywhere. I must confess I have not seen "devil doll"; is it any good? the cover sounds like "chucky" to me, but maybe its only the cover... Cheers!

there is a link to the spanish series "historias para no dormir"

about devil doll...
if you enjoy Magic has i do, you go to love Devil Doll,
it is a story about the dummy Hugo and his ventriloquist The Grat Vorelli.
Hugo has the ability to walk across the stage all by himself...

by the way i am looking for the name of a series about a group of puppets and a couple of teenagers in a basement...
all the puppets run to hide when the owner of the house appears, and we never get to saw that man...
?
can you help me?
thanks.

Nuno: Couldn´t that be one of the "Puppet Master" series...?
Thanks for the tip about "Devil doll", I will give it a try -although I have to tell you: it is the ambiguity of "magic" what I love, I don´t care about films where the dummy actually moves. Another great example of that subtle ambiguity is the canadian "Pin", a very much underated -or maybe just unknown- horror film. Cheers!

reply

no, it was a tv series that i saw back in the 80`s, and it was made for television...
they have an orquestra, with a maestro, when the owner of the building appears a siren stars buzzing... and all the dummies stars hiding from the owner!
i already run all the internet, the imdb, and i can`t find the title of that series!
that`s difficult to find that one!

if you love subtle ambiguity try to see this one "Love Object" (2003)

maybe you already saw it...

and
"Sei donne per l'assassino" from maestro Mario Bava
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058567/
in this one we have a good scene inside a mannequin room...

Oh, and by the way: I own the "Historias para no dormir" pack, but the story I´m talking about it´s not there. It was made much later than the classic episodes of that series... I saw it when I was a child and gave me nightmares for weeks.

reply

historias para no dormir" called "Freddy
the imdb have that title?

reply

No, I don´t think "Freddy" appears in any catalog (imdb is, alas!, not perfect)... strange, since it was one of the best episodes Ibañez Serrador ever made... In the end there was a dwarf inside the dummy! Sound funny, but it was -at least for a 10 years old child- scary as hell.
I will look around for the films you recommended me; thanks!

After you saw that movies tell me something, ok?

I'm not sure if this helps or even if I am talking about the same movie, but I seem to recall one where the people had their faces done up like mannequins and talked to each other. It was horrifying. There was a scene where the man was trying to talk the woman into turning into one with him or vice/versa.

But, just to see a mannequin type face along with psychological speech come out is really scary in my opinion.

By the way, another grrreat film involving mannequins is the Spanish "Para entrar a vivir", about a woman who fills her building with them and pretends they are her neighbours...

Have you seen any Full Moon movies? Its probably not the one you are talking about but it reminded me of some. I heard the new puppet master 3 axis of evil takes place in WWII with nazis and the japanese! These are films to be watched.

I don't remember the episode title, but I seem to be remembering an old Twilight Zone episode with Burgess Meredith as a night watchman in a wax museum, where of course the displays come to life. One of the creepiest of the series.

reply

The episode is "The New Exhibit", but Burguess Meredith is not in it.

reply

My mistake. Thanks.
