Is this Rated PG or R

I ask this cause I recently bought a new copy of this film from Amazon and on its site it rates it as PG and do does on here. But I turn the dvd over and the Rating says R. So anyone know which one it is. And if it is PG why would it say its rated R on the back? Does that mean its a bootleg or something. It says it was released by Full Moon pictures I think it said.

Its an official DVD. I think the title is public domain, but the DVD is released by Full Moon Pictures, a company run by this film's executive producer Charles Band. If it weren't for him, this underrated film probably wouldn't even be on DVD at all.

The film was rated, and maybe still is PG, much to the shock of the cast and crew due to scenes of violence. The director David Schmoeller talks about it on the DVD, the PG rating is what hurt the film's box office performance.

I think the Full Moon DVD says 'R' for promotional purposes. "No one wants to see a PG rated horror movie" - Schmoeller.

While I agree with the bulk of your posting, wallacesawyer, this film is in no way, shape or form in the public domain. I'm not sure what, exactly, would lead you to that conclusion, it's definitely not the case. Otherwise, you're pretty much right on with everything else you said.

It's the little things. Like how Rifftrax was able to release a VOD of the film, and that whole Blu-Ray fiasco. I could be wrong, but I suspect it was cut five minutes shorter in order to obtain a new copyright for the Blu-Ray.

Can you prove it isn't in the public domain? Because I would like to know for sure.

It was originally rated PG. however since the rating system has changed a lot since 79, its possible that it would be rated as R nowadays and thus a new released DVD is rated as such.

No it isn’t.
A rating stands — it doesn’t expire like cheese.

Tourist Trap was rated PG in 1979.
It was never R.
