Inaccurate history as to Tom Horn's reticence
Although I loved this movie the historical inaccuracies always seem to pop up. Steve McQueen portrayed Tom as being somewhat non-talkative and thereby representative of that Hollywood stereotype of the reticent cowboy who's actions spoke for themselves with little need for elaboration. However, in real life, Tom Horn was a man that was impossible to shut up. At his trial Tom's defense team could hardly get him to shut up once he was on the witness stand, which is very different from the way it was portrayed in the movie. "Talking Boy" (Geronimo's nickname for Horn) lived up to the Apache warrior's nickname under the prosecuting attorney Stoll's questioning. To verify this see http://www.leverguns.com/articles/staley/horn_vs_hollywood.htm I prefer the director and screenwriters to do as much research as possible so as to impart as accurate as possible a history lesson to those who's only knowledge of the historical figure comes from watching the film. (That isn't to say I've verified my source, so I hope it's reliable).
