Date on time machines panel was 'edited'

I watched this movie on MOJOHD this weekend and I noticed that the date filed of Origin was modified - the date appeared to have been Photoshopped/photo manipulated and floated above the rest of the panel as clearly edited when the camera showed the time machines instrument panel.

The date now read something like 1893 or 1894 (I can't remember right now). Does anyone know what the original date read before it was edited or was it always like this? (I do recall a scene a few minutes earlier when it was announced that Jack the Ripper hasn't killed in years and a quick internet search shows that the murders attached to Jack was in 1888). I don't recall noticing this the last time I watched the movie, but seeing Time After Time in 720p HD, it was hard not to notice it.

I also noticed at the end of the movie, the 1979 in the Origin field was like the above reference, too. However, the Destination field had the correct, non-edited looking 1979 in the date field.

I believe, but am not certain, that it was the same in either the original print or perhaps when it was first released on video. I seem to recall seeing that AGES ago.

I have a VHS tape of the movie I bought in the 1980s, but it is packed away and buried in a storage room.

JUST watched it having DVR'd it off of Mojo this morning. Loved it. Haven't seen it in ages.

I just watched a rented VHS copy of it last night and it is the same on the original VHS release of the movie. Maybe it was corrected for VHS or most likely corrected for the film release.

I rented the VHS from Audio/Video Plus in Houston, Texas. They have almost 7,000 VHS titles for rent (5 for $5 for a week) with an amazing selection of out of print and hard to find titles, especially cult and underground horror, fantasy and sci-fi but they also have art house and other types.

No, I don't work there and this is not a paid plug. As a lover of movies, good and bad, I rent 5 or more a week from them. I highly recommend it to anyone in Houston. This place is what a video store used to be and ought to still be!
