'Alternate Versions' - Error?

Alternate Versions
In the scene where H.G. Wells and Amy Robbins are having dinner at a restaurant he mentions having been to a Irish pub called "McDonald's." On the Region 1 DVD, the name of the pub is dubbed over to be "MacDougal's," ruining the joke.

Uh, does Wells say "McDonalds" in ANY version of the film? In the version I saw Wells tells Amy that the restaurant they are dining at is "far superior to that Scottish place [not "Irish pub"] I had breakfast this morning ... McDougals".

Nor do I think it "ruins the joke": it's doubly amusing because not only does Wells get the McDonalds name wrong, he also mistakes it for a "Scottish" restaurant.

It's not an alternate version. He said MacDougal's in the original theatrical film. I always thought the dubbing of McDonald's had something to do with using a trade-marked name in a movie without permission. This movie was made long before corporations and the film industry came together with the product placement we're all so familiar with these days. Of course, they do show the restaurant on camera and they do use "Big Mac" in dialogue, so it could just be wrong and Nicholas Meyer may have though it would be funnier of Wells flubbed the name.

The point is, it was NOT altered for the DVD. I love how people just make stuff up and post it as fact here. Hilarious.

Yeah, I had a hunch that the note in Alternate Versions was all wrong. Thanks for the confirmation.

I thought there was a version where, after HG & Amy leave for 1893, we see kids at the exhibit look at a photo from 1893 with HG & Amy in it.
