'Powered by the sun'?

Been a while since I've seen the movie, but I seem to recall that when Wells was first showing the others the plans for his machine (before revealing that he had already BUILT it), he described the machine as "powered by the sun" — yet the Ripper's escape in the machine and Wells's subsequent pursuit occur...at night (in his basement)??? Pray, how??

Hmmm...could it be that it the whole movie was a FANTASY??

reply

Battery's perhaps? To store the Suns Energy?

reply

Hmmm, I seem to remember a large skylight in Well's lab, and I'm assuming that the machine had been there for at least a few days. I guess it could have been soaking up the sun through the skylight and storing it.

"There's a mechanical snake in the sky."
"Shoot it."
"Not yet, I want to study its habbits."

reply

Yes, as far as I can tell the machine never goes outside, so how has it made (and stored) enough energy to run?

reply

Yeah, that was a silly and unnecessary complication. He could have just said that he plugged it in, and that's where it got it's electricity from.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
