Any body notice this ludicrous, lazy voiceover: When Malcolm McDowell's character parrots the customer before him in ordering fries at the restaurant counter, the exact soundbite of the prior character that gives McDowell the idea to order fries is used in a ridiculous sound dubbing attempt to match McDowell's lips as he "orders" fries?

shareJust saw this movie again on Action Max. Noticed that when HG Wells talks about that Scottish restaurant he's been eating at, it now seems to be redubbed "McDowells", not "McDonalds" (or as he says it, MacDonalds).
He actually says MacDougal's, and his misuse of the actual name is deliberate. It's part of the humor.

shareIf that was the case, they would have looped out the term Big Mac as well as that item name is also a registered trademark of McDonalds. If they weren't allowed to say "McDonalds", they would not be allowed to say "Big Mac"... so that leads us to believe that looped or not, Wells mixing up the name was deliberate and done for humorous purposes- not to avoid legal issues.

I think it probably WAS at McDonald's request/insistense that their name was redubbed "McDougal's". They didn't mind being depicted in a scene in the film when Wells goes there, and having their "Big Mac" mentioned, but they didn't want their name directly attached to his "maligning" comment at the other restaurant.

In the scene where H.G. Wells and Amy Robbins are having dinner at a restaurant he mentions having been to a Irish pub called "McDonald's." On the Region 1 DVD, the name of the pub is dubbed over to be "MacDougal's," ruining the joke.

Is there something that this proves?? Anyway, what he had said was that where they were having dinner was “much better than that Scottish place I breakfasted”, not an “Irish pub”. It was obvious that he was referring to McDonald’s, even without (seemingly) remembering its name correctly; so it wasn’t “ruined”.

That line was looped. You hear "MacDoogal's," but his mouth movement says "McDonald's." Post-production change by director Meyer, I'd guess, to add a bit more humor.

Everyone missed the point on this one. The OP is basically asking "Did anyone notice they dubbed Malcolm's voice with the other customer's?" No they didn't. He was just trying to sound like him as if that kind of voice was the proper way to place an order.
