They're still doing the same jobs 8(?) years later. Have they gone up in rank or did they refuse promotions because they liked their jobs?
Edit: Chekov seems to have a new job but I'm not sure what it is. Weapons officer perhaps?

In The Motion Picture it looks like this for those 3:
Uhura: Lieutenant, Chief Communications Officer
Chekov: Lieutenant, Chief Tactical Officer
Sulu: Lieutenant, Helmsman
Their promotions came one by one already starting with The Wrath of Khan, where you spot that some one like Chekov now had become a Commander and First Officer.
Uhura and Sulu i believe got promoted later, but they kept their positions.
I believe their rank in TMP was lieutenant commander.All commanders in the following films with Sulu being Captain in Star Trek Vl!

Sulu - Lieutenant Commander
Chekov - Lieutentant
From what I remember TMP is supposed to only be a couple years after the final episode of TOS when Uhura and Sulu were Lieutenants and Chekov was an Ensign whereas the TWOK is actually 13 years after TOS.
I see. For some reason, I thought it was almost 10 years later. But looking at the dates on Memory Alpha, the five year mission would've ended in 2270 I think and shortly after that, the Enterprise was refitted and the events in TMP take place.
