Really can't believe this is only a 6.4...

It's criminal! The fact that Star Trek 09 is an 8.0, or that Into Darkness is 7.8, while this film gets 6.4...Nemesis is rated the same as this! Hell, even *beep* Generations is higher than this. Makes no sense.

All the other Star Trek movies have significantly more action than TMP and no long boring scenes.
Something like TMP (theatrical version) feels like a very long TOS episode, too long actually.

If people gave The Directors Cut DVD a try then it might help, because that one is actually how Robert Wise originally wanted the movie to be like and is also a whole lot better than what was released in the theaters and later on Blu-ray.
I am actually happy that Paramount allowed Robert Wise to make his vision of TMP before his death.

Yeah I quite enjoy the directors cut as well. I can't say for sure which version I prefer, though!
I'm surprised the complaint there is it's lacking in action, though. I mean yeah, it's certainly true that the others have a lot more action. But just in terms of ideas, this may be the most Star Trek of any of the movies. Wrath of Kahn is still my favorite, but I appreciate this one a lot for how true it stayed to the spirit of the series.

I think the the biggest criticism against TMP is that it lacks the warm and witty character interactions in the original series. There's definitely moments like that in this film, but not a whole lot. Strangely, in the sense that it attempts to blend exploration with character interaction, The Final Frontier may actually be the most true in spirit to the original series. For the record, I actually liked Final Frontier, but it's easily the most hated Trek film of the original crew.
