Other Bands considered for the movie?

In the special features of the new DVD edition, director Allan Arkush sez that before the filmmakers decided on the Ramones, several other bands were considered to appear in "Rock N Roll High School." He sez that Cheap Trick was discussed, and Warner Brothers (who were doing the soundtrack album for the film) suggested the then-relatively-unknown Van Halen (Arkush said, "but we were told that they were really wild and we might not be able to control them"). Arkush also mentions that Devo (!) were a possibility at one time.

Of course, the Ramones turned out to be the perfect band for the film, but can you imagine what it might've looked like if one of those other bands had been used instead? I think it still would've worked with Van Halen or Cheap Trick, as they were both hard rockin' bands that played suitable music to blow up a high school to, but it could've been a VERY different movie if Devo had been involved. Imagine the concert scene; Riff and her friends could've been wearing Energy Dome hats and yellow jump suits, rockin' out to "Girl U Want" and "Jocko Homo!" Not to mention, Riff Randell could've been trying to schmooze Mark Mothersbaugh, who was even dorkier than Joey Ramone!!!

Imagine the possibilities!

I have heard that Cheap Trick was their first choice, but they were too well known and they couldn't afford them. Cheap Trick and The Ramones are my two favorite bands, however I definitely think no one could do it better than The Ramones.
