shareYup. Dee Dee King. I think he actually did ok for a while, but... well...
But just remember that the Beastie Boys started out as punks and found mainstream success as rappers before they went back to punk and then blended the two. There have been a few other punk acts that went rap, too.
Dee Dee was the man, though. If you watch the old footage from the Ramones (up 'til around 1981 or so), it's plain that Dee Dee was the real rocker of the group. He was totally amazing live and about the only one in the band with any stage charisma. Joey had presense, but Dee Dee made it rock.
Ramones Raw explains alot about DeeDee's career as a punk rapper
I used to have that CD. Check out a song called "German Kid" by Dee Dee King. It features Debbie Harry too. :)
shareWow, I would really love to hear Dee Dee rapping. Yeah, I first read about that in Lobotomy (his autobiography) and he was talking about wearing his red velvet jump suit to see the band...lol

That book is completely hilarious due to the fact that it's only about 25% accurate. I read somewhere (I think in the Ramones Bio) that Dee Dee's book is "faction"...half fact, half fiction. Seems about right. I would love to own the Dee Dee King album because I'm sure, like his auto-bio, that it's completely stupid yet highly entertaining at the same time. "Hop Around" is a damn good album, even though a lot of songs are just Ramones songs with different lyrics. But he can get away with it, since the songs he ripped off are the ones he wrote.
The map sez we're f--ked!
I found "Standing In The Spotlight" in a pawn shop in South Haven, Michigan two years ago for $5. It's hilarious how bad some of it is, "Mashed Potato Attack" in particular. But then again, it has "The Crusher" on it, so it can't be all bad.
shareActually, Standing In The Spotlight is a great CD. The more you listen to it, the better it gets.
My dream may be your nightmare.
I can't believe that Warner Brothers released a Dee Dee Ramone rap album.
shareyeah check out his so called rap album. Apart from the rap attempts it is actually quite a good lp and has contributions from Debbie Harry
shareActually, when you think about it, punk and rap are very similar, it's just that normally the people who perform/listen to it are not so similar. Hip hop has its rock roots. Some of the best songs in history combine the efforts of both rappers and rockers. Run DMC & Aerosmith's "Walk This Way," Public Enemy & Anthrax's "Bring The Noise," etc.
Unfortunatly I have not yet heard DeeDee's rapping, but I'm sure it is very amusing!

for Dee Dee Ramone's rap song "German Kid". With all due respect, Dee Dee should have stayed with The Ramones.
