Did anyone else find her really, really irritating? She wasn't even that pretty, or nice. And Dee Dee's autobiography said none of the actors were Ramones fans. I think the movie would have been a lot better if they cast a real Ramones fan as Riff.

As for the actors being fans - I didn't notice that they WEREN'T fans, so I don't think it would've been any better WITH real fans...
I agree with Silent Jay. Are ya kidding, shes sexy! Ya have to think that this movie is old....from 1979. Off course, women today are in general more stylish and hot. I bet that if u saw this flick during that time, then PJ SOLES mightve been the ANNA KOURNIKOVA of the late 70s when it comes to looks. But actually she looks fine in the film weither its 1970s or 20th century. She has charisma too. I dont care if shes a real fan or not. Im glad that she starred it. Im sure that many other fans would agree

It's not that she isn't attractive. It's just that she doesn't come off as a believable Ramones fan. She comes off as someone's mom. Ya know, like you're getting a ride home from soccer practice, and your friends are in the car, and your mom starts singing really loudly to the radio. And I would be the kid in the back whose like...Blanks mom is hot!

I think PJ Soles was perfect for the role of Riff. And you're right, not only was she not a Ramones fan but she had never heard of them until the film. I read somewhere that before the film shooting started she had to listen to Ramones music and get to know the music. She said she would run around her house screaming because she couldn't stand the music. But she was saying all this in a nice way.
She attends Ramones functions that take place annually like Joey's birthday bashes. (His family puts on yearly birthday bashes for him. I wish i lived in NYC so i could go!) I think it's nice of her to go considering she only knew them at one point of her life which was over 25 years ago. She sounds really cool.
the hottest girl in the movie is the girl with the long black hair that is always around riff and dances next to her in the gym dancing scene

For me PJ Soles' bubbly performance of Riff was one of the highlights from the flick. She was perfect in every way.

I didn't think she was ugly, but annoying, yeah. I know she was supposed to be over the top, the corneyness of the whole movie was what made it so great, but she did annoy me very much. "Riff Randels, Rock N Roller". Yeah, okay. I thought her attempt at singing "Rock N Roll High School" was horrible.

There isn't one person out there who wasn't irritating when they were a teenager! Also, did anyone catch P.J. Soles minute performance in "The Devil's Rejects"? The reason why they wanted PJ was because they knew she'd be great, and she wanted the part really bad, too. The problem was that RnRHS was so low budget they couldn't afford to hire an actor as popular as PJ. She wanted the role so bad that she promised to buy her wardrobe. That's why she was ALLOWED to be cast, not why she was actually cast.
As for the comment on her clothes, I really loved them! My friends and I wear stuff like that all the time, and we're still huge Ramones fans. The point was that they were obnoxiously unusual and made her stand out in each scene, even when she's with more "genuine"-looking punk fans.
She may have been annoying to some but watching Riff was like looking in a mirror to me! Albeit a warped and exagerrated mirror that places me in 1979....
She might have been a bit annoying, but it seemed to fit her character. What bugged me was that she really didn't seem like a Ramones fan type of person. I just couldn't see her dancing in a croud at CBGBs. It was really the way she dressed more than anything. The bright colors, spandex, and those red sunglasses = not punk.

shareWhen I first saw this movie and I was in my pre teens but P.J. Soles name stood out and she rocked in this flick. And it showed in acting what a good job she did vs. being the chick that got killed in h.s. (i.e. Carrie (which I always loved Norma) and Halloween as Lynda).

I think she looked the part. PJ Soles in this movie looks like a 1970s - 80s super rock and roll music superstars fan, so that's what you think. Plus, yes, I agree with the first commenter, I didn't notice she wasn't a fan either so what's it matter?

There should have been an open casting call for Ramones fans. My sister and her high school friends lived for the Ramones in the late '70s/early '80s. We lived in the New York area. I assume the Ramones were very popular on and close to their home turf.

shareIrony is, PJ Soles was 29, when she played this role. This film was meant to be in So Cal, but in 79, Ramones were blowing up everywhere, and were already really popular in LA by then. Some other thread suggested Cheap Trick? gag me!, Ramones were 1000 times the band Cheap Trick ever was.
shareI feel like the only Cheap Trick song that ever had a big following that I still here today is "I want you to want me", but the Romans did have a larger following and they had songs that you still hear, or the younger generations know like "I wanna be sedated" "Stop Thinking about it" and well even "Rock and Roll High School"
