I loved the cartoon versions better then the new versions. But does anyone else think they where missing some important stuff that happened between Lord of the Rings and Return of the king.

True. Shelob appears in the book of 'The Two Towers' so it is easy to see why they didn't include it.
It is a shame that it wasn't just Bashki's 'The Lord of The Rings: Part Two' as i loved his film and thought that it remained surprisingly close to the novels (infact he made it so other people wouldn't make a film version that strayed far from the novels).
