Merry and Pippin

OK, so Merry was voiced by Casey Kasem in this film -- the original host of American Top 40, while Pippin was voiced by Sonny Melendrez, a frequent substitute host for Kasem on AT40. Do you think this was merely a coincidence, or was it a nice little inside joke by Rankin-Bass?

Probably an inside joke, but, since its intended audience wouldn't get it, kinda pointless, huh? ;-(

Rather symbolic of the movie itself, I would say. ;-D
