Just watched ND40, the final touchdown catch would likely be incomplete by 2010 NFL rules (does not complete the process before pointing the nose of the football into the ground, similar to the Calvin Johnson catch in week 1). Yeah, this is more an indictment of the idiocy of the current NFL catch rules. The missed extra point to tie also harkens to week 14 game where Washington muffs the snap on the PAT with 9 seconds left and loses to Tampa Bay 17-16.

I think it still would have been a touchdown. Elliot has complete control of the ball throughout the process of making the catch, including when the ball touches the ground.

I agree with you that the current NFL rules regarding touchdown catches should be revised, though.
